The wonder of oats
When money’s tight, or time is short and you want a little pamper, try nourishing oats straight out of your pantry. Oats and oatmeal are soothing to all skin types, and will settle most skin irritations. The goodness penetrates deeply into pores, cleansing excessive cell build up and clogged pores. Oats contain an antioxidant called phytic acid, which soothes skin and acts as a gentle cleanser. Oats are also an effective but gentle exfoliator. There are several ways to use oats on your skin;
i) place a couple of handfuls into a stocking, tie up the end and drop it into your bath for milky nourishment
ii) mix oats with a little yoghurt, oil or water for a gentle face scrub
iii) grind oats to a fine powder or use oatmeal, mix with water to a paste and use as a gentle cleanser
Here’s a bizarre recipe we found using oats…it’s called KINKY OATMEAL MASK:
Bring a cup of water to the boil and pour over a cup of oats.
Let it sit for 5min.
Finely grind a medium (peeled) onion to a paste in a food processor and mix with oats/water while still warm.
The onion acts as an anti-inflammatory agent and inhibits scarring. The oatmeal penetrates deeply for a refreshing cleanse.
Alternatively, if you can’t stomach the onion, try Rubifresh Nourishing Face Mask which contains both oats and colloidal oatmeal, plus goat’s milk, super-hydrating hyaluronic acid and other nourishing ingredients. You will love the baby-smooth feel of your skin!
Our RubiRescue Complex also contains avena sativa (oat) flour to soothe the skin from irritation and eczema. Check it out here.
